Education on Screen

Digital learning platform created by the transmedia research group at the Department of Semiotics of the University of Tartu as part of the research project "Culture as education: transmediality and digitality in cultural autocommunication". The platform shows how to use popular Estonian films in the school curriculum.

Project started in 2015.
Area: Development of innovative e-learning materials for the school system.

Goal

The goal of the platform is to develop the methodology derived from the tradition of the Tartu School of cultural semiotics, as a tool for students to make sense of the complex mediation processes found in contemporary culture.

Educational programs

The digital platform features six interactive educational programs wherein relationships of literature and film, history, identity, sense of nature, and connections between religion, magic, and science, are investigated on the examples of well-known Estonian literary works and films.
